1 Day Tour & Taster Workshop Korean Flower and Butterfly

Your day at the Royal School of Needlework will include our Stitch is International exhibition tour plus a half day taster embroidery class and kit.

In the morning you will see the exhibition. The tour will last for 1.5 hours (seating is available) and begins with an illustrated lecture from a member of staff or tutor, giving historical context and information about the Royal School of Needlework.  The Tour then takes place for the final hour when our volunteer guides will show you around the exhibition in our working Studio rooms.

In the afternoon you will join RSN Tutor, Jung Byun, who will teach you how to create this beautiful flower and butterfly motif using traditional Korean Silk Shading embroidery techniques. You will be working with hand dyed, twisted pure silk threads on silk fabric.

Inspired by international focus of our exhibition, Jung will give students the unique experience of using traditional silk threads to create unique stitches including Korean style Satin Stitch, Slanted Satin Stitch, Outline Stitch, and Korean style Long and Short Stitch.

The Tour will start at 11am (please meet outside the main entrance of Hampton Court Palace at 10.40am) and finish at 12.30pm and the class will run from 1.30-4pm.

The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
